What is PCOD?

FSH/LH levels

Measurement of FSH(Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH(Leutinizing Hormone) on days 2-5 of the menstrual cycle are useful in diagnosing PCOD

What are the symptoms?

Facial hair, obesity, irregular periods, infertility and sometimes high blood sugar levels are observed in women with PCOD.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound reveals the presence of multiple follicles in the ovary, together with a thickened fibrous stroma

How is it treated

PCOD is usually treated with hormone regularizing medicines, as well as the same medicines that are given in diabetes.

Metformin

This medicine is very commonly prescribed in PCOD, as it has been shown to have a beneficial effect.
