What is this test?

This is a DNA test to detect chlamydia and/or gonorrhea infections in men and women. It uses Nucleic Acid Amplification Technology to find even the smallest amount of gonorrhea or chlamydia infection. It can be done on urine or vaginal discharge.

What is Chlamydia?

Chalmydia is a type of bacteria that cause infection in sexually active adults. It causes a whitish discharge from vagina/penis. It is sexually transmitted

What is Gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection that causes creamy white discharge from the vagina/penis. It can lead to infertility. It is sexually transmitted

How do I know if I have Chlamydia/Gonorrhea?

You may have chlamydia or gonorrhea, if you :

  • Have multiple sexual partners AND have unprotected intercourse
  • Notice a whitish discharge from your genitals
  • Notice groin swellings together with fever
  • Have infertility or painful intercourse as a woman.

How is the test done?

This test can be done on urine samples, as well as discharge from the vagina, or swabs taken from the vagina, swabs from the mouth, and the rectum

In men, urine samples are recommeded, and all you need to do is urinate into a container, that will be provided by the lab

In women, swabs taken from the vagina (by a gynecologist) are preferred. If swabs are not available, urine sample can also be provided.

What will be included in the report?

The report includes 2 results.

  • Chlamydia Trachomatis - Detected/Not-Detected
  • Neisseria Gonorrhea - Detected/Not-Detected

The test looks for one DNA target of chlamydia and two DNA targets of Gonorrhea. Gonorrhea is declared positive only if both targets are detected.
