Overview

Dengue NS1 and Antibodies is a laboratory test used to detect the presence of the dengue virus in a patients blood. The test detects two types of antibodies produced by the immune system when exposed to the virus, as well as a protein called NS1 that is produced by the virus itself. The test is performed by drawing a blood sample from the patient and analyzing it in a laboratory using specialized equipment. The results of the test can help diagnose dengue fever and guide treatment decisions.

Who should do this test?

Individuals who have symptoms suggestive of dengue fever: Dengue NS1 and Antibodies should be done in individuals who have symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rash, and abdominal pain.

Individuals with a recent history of travel to endemic areas: NS1 and Antibodies should be done in individuals who have recently traveled to areas where dengue is prevalent as they may have been exposed to the virus.

Individuals who have a high risk of exposure to the virus: Dengue NS1 and Antibodies should be done in individuals who live in or work in areas with a high incidence of dengue fever, such as construction sites or areas with poor sanitation, as they are at increased risk of acquiring the virus.

What to do if the test is abnormal?

Seek medical consultation: If the result of Dengue NS1 and antibodies are abnormal, it is important to seek medical consultation from a healthcare provider such as a physician or a specialist in infectious diseases. They will be able to guide the patient on the next course of action, which may include further testing or treatment.

Follow the recommended treatment: Depending on the severity of the disease, the healthcare provider may recommend hospitalization or outpatient treatment. Treatment may include rest, hydration, pain relief medication, and close monitoring of the patients condition. In severe cases, hospitalization may be required for closer observation and management of complications.

Take precautions to prevent further spread: Dengue is a viral illness that is spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes. To prevent further spread, it is important to take precautions such as wearing protective clothing, using mosquito repellents, and eliminating stagnant water sources around the house. The patient should also avoid being bitten by mosquitoes to prevent further spread of the disease.

What is the normal range of Dengue NS1 Antigen with Antibodies?

The normal range for adult males is negative, the normal range for adult females is negative

If two or more of these are positive, you will be considered as a patient of dengue.

A dengue test is recommended for people who are suffering from symptoms of dengue like fever, rash, headache, bodyache or a combination of these symptoms.. For conclusive proof of dengue, it is best that the test is done in the first 5-7 days of the fever, so that the NS1 antigen can be detected. The presence of this antigen is conclusive proof of dengue.

Any person, who has some signs or symptoms of dengue can get the test done. It can be done by old, young, infants, as well as pregnant mothers.
