What to do if the test is abnormal?

  • The first step would be to confirm the abnormal result by repeating the TPHA test or performing additional tests such as VDRL or RPR tests. This is important because false positive results can occur with the TPHA test.
  • If the abnormal result is confirmed, the next step would be to conduct a thorough medical evaluation to determine the stage of the infection, the extent of the damage, and the appropriate treatment options. This may involve further testing such as a physical examination, blood tests, or imaging studies.
  • Treatment for syphilis typically involves antibiotics, such as penicillin, which can effectively kill the bacteria responsible for the infection. It is important to follow the prescribed treatment regimen and to avoid sexual contact until the infection has been completely cured. Patients should also be advised to inform their sexual partners so that they can be tested and treated as well.
