Urine test results explained

A routine urine test includes information about the presence of infection, blood, urine and physical properties. We explain what abnormal results mean and how they are to be interpreted

Sugar 1+ to 4+

A sugar level of 1+ to 4+ implies the presence of glucose or sugar in the urine. Normally sugar is only detected in the urine if its value is more than 180mg/dl in the blood. The higher the grade , the more the sugar. For eg 4+ is usually seen when the sugar level is above 250-280mg/dl

Leucocyte Esterase : Trace to 4+ - Higher the value more the chances of an infection.

Leucocyte Esterase is an indicator of the presence of White blood cells in the urine. These cells fight infection, but can also be present in other cases. High values indicate the presence of a large number of white blood cells and consequently higher chances of infection. Lower values do not necessarily mean that the WBC count is low.
