What is Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression Test
The Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression Test is a diagnostic tool used to determine if a patient has Cushings syndrome, a hormonal disorder characterized by high levels of cortisol.
During the test, a patient takes a low dose of dexamethasone, a synthetic form of cortisol, at night. The next morning, blood is drawn to measure cortisol levels.
If cortisol levels remain high, it indicates a positive result for Cushings syndrome. If cortisol levels decrease, it indicates a negative result.
This test is commonly used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools to confirm a diagnosis of Cushings syndrome.
