The doctor will be performing a group of tests to help understand why you are experiencing slurred speech. This group of tests includes Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Computed tomography (CT) scan, Electroencephalogram (EEG), Blood tests (vitamin B12, folate, and thyroid function tests), Lumbar puncture (spinal tap), Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing, Electromyography (EMG), Neuropsychological testing, and Drug and alcohol screening
These tests will provide us with important information about the cause of your speech impediment. The MRI, CT scan, EEG, and lumbar puncture will provide us with information about the structure and function of your brain and central nervous system, which will help us identify any abnormalities that may be causing your slurred speech
The blood tests will allow us to check for any vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems that may be contributing to your difficulty speaking. The ABR testing and EMG will give us insights into the activity in your auditory and motor nerves, respectively, which will also help us understand what’s causing your slurred speech
Finally, the neuropsychological testing and drug and alcohol screening can help us rule out any cognitive or substance-related causes of your slurred speech. Group 1: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Computed tomography (CT) scan, Electroencephalogram (EEG), Lumbar puncture (spinal tap), Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing, Electromyography (EMG), Neuropsychological testing
Group 2: Blood tests (vitamin B12, folate, and thyroid function tests), Drug and alcohol screening.
