Overview

LDH (lactate dehydrogenase) is an enzyme found in many body tissues, including the heart, liver, and kidneys. An LDH test measures the amount of this enzyme in the blood. The test is performed by taking a blood sample from a vein in the arm and sending it to a laboratory for analysis. LDH levels can be elevated in a variety of conditions, including heart attack, liver disease, and certain types of cancer.

Who should do this test?

Patients with cancer: LDH is often elevated in patients with certain types of cancer, such as lymphoma, leukemia, and lung cancer. It can also be used to monitor the progression of the disease and response to treatment.

Patients with heart disease: LDH is found in the heart muscle and can be elevated in patients with heart attacks or heart failure. It can be used to help diagnose and monitor these conditions.

Patients with liver disease: LDH can be elevated in patients with liver damage or disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. It can be used as a marker of liver function and to monitor disease progression.

What to do if the test is abnormal?

Consult with your physician or healthcare provider: If your LDH test results are abnormal, the first thing you should do is consult with your physician or healthcare provider. They will be able to interpret the results in the context of your overall health and medical history, and determine if further testing or treatment is necessary.

Follow up with additional testing: Depending on the severity of the abnormal LDH results, your physician may recommend additional testing to help diagnose the underlying cause. This may include imaging tests, such as a CT scan or MRI, or further blood tests to evaluate liver or kidney function.

Make lifestyle changes: Depending on the underlying cause of the abnormal LDH results, your physician may recommend making lifestyle changes to improve your overall health. This may include changes to your diet or exercise routine, quitting smoking, or reducing alcohol consumption.

What is the normal range of LDH-Lactate Dehydrogenase?

The normal range for adult males is 85.0-227.0,the normal range for adult females is 85.0-227.0
